Slow to open up, but with a little bit of time there is liquorice, dark cherry and coffee. Fuller and riper on the palate than more recent vintages feel. Powerful, and deep, lots of savoury notes submerged in blackberry compote. Arguably a little tiredness creeping in, although admirers of older wines won’t bat an eye. The palate remains rich and velvety, with a faint nod towards Sangiovese’s Chianti Classico austerity. Very good wine and a great advert for the longevity of San Felice’s single vineyard Il Grigio.

Very earthy, with lots of dried violets, cherry and liquorice. Plenty of evolution resulting in a gamey aroma. Full mouth coating of dark, brooding fruit. The palate is beautifully savoury, with broard shouldered tannins. Relatively cooler year given the decade that follows, but still a warm and sunny vintage yielding a rich, ripe structure. Acidity is still fresh. This is an impressively aged Chianti with classical varietal depth and concentration.

Earthy nose, with lush morello cherry, blackberries, sweet spice and tobacco. With time in the glass faint hints of grilled herb come through alongside dried flowers and forest floor. Fairly light on the palate with an attractive rusticity. Soft, lightly chewy tannin draped in dried red fruit and violets. Elegant and polished with a lengthy finish.
