Colli Berici is one of the Veneto's up and coming areas for red wine production. Although quantity is low, there are some excellent wines to be found. Carménère in particular seems to be thriving.
In the heart of industrious [Veneto](/region/veneto), the Berici hills represent a little haven of beauty and tranquility. These are the hills that rise out of the flat plains, between Vicenza and Verona. The local grape is [Tai Rosso](/tai-rosso) but there are also exciting things happening with other varieties. The most obvious example is [Carménère](/carmenere) where [Azienda Agricola Inama](/producer/azienda-agricola-inama) in particular are pioneering a project to demonstrate just how well this notoriously challenging variety is adapting to the Berici hills. Despite its relative newness as a wine region the Berici area is full of history. [Cantina Pegoraro](/producer/cantina-pegoraro) for example is housed in a 13th century convent.
