Goriška Brda Merlot "Opoka" by Marjan Simčič

Opoka is considered one of the best wines in Slovenia. Produced in Brda from Merlot vines of over 60 years, it enjoys a wild yeast fermentation in stainless steel with around 1/3 full bunch. Typically the wine is aged in used 225l barrels (30% new) for four years before release.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of plum and prune, backed up by dark berry and chocolate, some leather and tobacco give way to a seductively jammy mouthfeel, succulent berry fruit and then a wave of freshness. This is an exceptionally good wine.
