Pantelleria DOC Passito "Ben Ryé" by Donnafugata

Ben Ryé is the flagship sweet wine of Donnafugata. It is produced on the island of Pantelleria, where long sunny days and abundant wind provide the perfect conditions for passito style wines. Zibibbo, the local name for Muscat, is sources from various districts in the south west of the island - notably Khamma, Mulini, Mueggen, Serraglia, Gibbiuna, Barone, Martingana, Bukkuranm, Favarotta, Punta Karace, Bugeber and Karuscia. The vines are generally cultivated on low 'albarello' bush vines to protect the fruit from strong winds. It is capable of ageing for many years in the bottle.

Tasting Notes

Intense aromas of apricot, honey, fig dominate the first wave of aromas. A luscious palate of ripe fruit. Layers of stone and tropical fruit zip around the mouth. A touch of caramel emerges. Candied notes. Endlessly complex. Subtle nuances of coastal scrub. Faint spice. Long, hedonistic finish. Top wine. Very excited to see this develop over time.
