Tenuta Marino

Tenuta Marino is a small producer based in Noepoli. Over the years they have received the help of one of southern Italy's top oenologists in Fabio Mecca.

Tenuta Marino
🗺 Basilicata, Italy

Another one of Basilicata's growing list of new wineries outside of the region's traditional Aglianico del Vulture DOC area. Tenuta Marino are situated in the Pollino national park in the south of Basilicata. It's a great place to make wine. At 500 metres night time breezes cool down the vines. As you might expect Tenuta Matino's wines are attractively perfumed. Their Primitivo in particular is reminiscent of the more aromatic Primitivo you would find in the Gioia del Colle DOC in neighbouring Puglia. The estate stretches across three territories: Noepoli, San Giorgio L. and Senise which in turn find themselves in the two provinces of Matera e Potenza. This is an area and geography that perhaps few Italians are familiar with, never mind international consumers. Two rivers, the Sinni and the Sarmento influence vineyards here and we are not far from Europe's largest clay dam, Monte Cutugno. Aglianico, Primitivo and interestingly Syrah grow here, while there are also plantings of Greco. All of the wines are produced from biologically cultivated fruit. The Greco comes from the village of San Giorgio Lucano. It is fermented in stainless steel, receives no malolactic and just a year in bottle. It's fresh and clean and an ideal seafood accompaniment.
