Virtually equidistant between Palermo and Agrigento, the appellation of Sambuca di Sicilia DOC covers around 130 hectares of vineyard. As with other small appellations in [Sicily](/region/sicily), a number of grape varieties are permitted. Whites can be produced with either [Ansonica](/ansonica), [Chardonnay](/chardonnay), Grecanico Dorato, [Grillo](/grillo) or [Sauvignon Blanc](/sauvignon-blanc), while reds may be produced with [Cabernet Sauvignon](/cabernet-sauvignon), [Merlot](/merlot), [Nero d’Avola](/nero-davola), [Sangiovese](/sangiovese) or [Syrah](/syrah). Despite being created in 1995, there is nobody I know of producing wines under the Sambuca di Sicilia denomination.
