Klingenberg Spätburgunder Grosses Gewächs VDP Grosse Lagen Schlossberg by Weingut Rudolf Fürst

Schlossberg is a historic vineyard site that rises steeply up from the River Main. The vineyard slopes here, which lie at 120 to 230 meters above sea level, rise between 50 and 90 percent and are crossed by supporting dry stone walls. The soils are poor and consist of rocky and stony red sandstone as well as red clay. Despite the sandy, fine soil, the soil can hold water well. Loess on the mountain cap provides the vineyards with additional moisture. Only Pinot Noir grape is classified for VDP.Grosse Lage. Weingut Fürst acquired three exceptional vineyard parcels in February 2004. Among them is the core piece of the grand cru vineyard Schlossberg, located directly below the Clingenburg Castle, enclosed by a 5m high city wall. It consists largely of old vines and new plantings of densely spaced, old Pinot clones. Hundreds of metres of dry stone walls have been carefully restored.

Tasting Notes

An aromatic, enticing nose of sour red cherry and baking spice follows through to the silky, bright palate. Burgundian in its elegance and complexity, exuberant fruit and a touch of minerality shows good concentration while remaining elegant and delicate. Outstanding.
