Created in 1987 Pessac-Léognan is the most recent appellation of all the [Bordeaux](/region/bordeaux) territories. Regardless, highly appreciated wine-making in this little area south of the city can be traced back hundreds of years. Pessac-Léognan's most recent history is heavily intertwined with the Lurton family. André Lurton was president of the wine growers association for almost twenty years. The sixteen properties that today form part of the 1953 classification of the Graves is an example of this exceptional past.
