Muntenia-Oltenia

Muntenia-Oltenia is a huge wine making region that covers the south west of Romania.

Muntenia-Oltenia

Oltenia Hills, or in Romanian, Dealurile Olteniei is the what's most likely to be seen on the label. The most important wine making zone within the region is undoubtedly the [Dealu Mare](/appellation/dealu-mare-doc). It is perfect for the production of red wine, but there are also an increasing amount of very high quality white wines being made here. Situated in Prahova County, it is protected from the northern winds by the Carpathian Mountains. As the mountains give way to gentler slopes, local white varieties such as [Fetească Regală](/feteasca-regala) and [Tămâioasă Românească](/tamaioasa-romaneasca) are grown to produce attractive, often dry wines.
