Binissalem DO

Spain's first island Denominación de Origen, Binissalem (Binissalem-Mallorca) was established in 1991 around the town from which it takes its name, northeast of Mallorca’s capital, Palma. The vineyards here enjoy a Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summer days and mild winters, as well as an elevated position approximately three-hundred metres above sea level. One of the key features of Binissalem’s terroir is the lime-rich soils that retain water, making viticulture possible in such warm conditions. Manto Negro is the area’s emblematic grape and must constitute at least 50% of any red wines produced here.
