Nebbiolo

One of the great Italian red grape varieties famous for the long living Barolo and Barbaresco wines.

Offspring: Bubbierasco, Rubin
Nebbiolo

The history of Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo derives its name from the Italian wine for fog - Nebbia - due to the presence of morning fogs in its origins, the Langhe valley of Piedmont.

In the Vineyard

Nebbiolo is a late ripening grape variety. It performs well in a number of soils.

The aromas and flavours of Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is famed for producing distinctive notes of rose petal and cherry. Depending on the soil it is also common to pick up on tertiary notes of aniseed. The variety is capable of very complex wines, such as those made in Barolo or Barbaresco, so you may also detect violets, plum, cranberries and raspberry.
