Cannonau

Cannonau is a red grape variety grown on Sardegna. It is identical to Grenache.

Cannonau

Recommendations for Cannonau

My recommendations for Cannonau focus exclusively on wines from Sardinia. Given the number of big, robust wines with unbalanced alcohol, I prefer to look for producers that set out to producer lighter expressions of the variety. Sometimes this is achieved through picking slightly earlier, although this risks the presence of bitterness. Often, higher elevation vineyards with good exposure to sea breezes, combined with softer extraction in the cellar, can help create this style of wine. My go to producer here is Antonella Corda, whose red wines are fragrant, medium bodied and show good levels of acidity.
